The Clientele - Suburban Light
One of the few albums that really hooked me as I holed myself in with old records, ignoring all of music slung along about around the last 10 years. Suburban Light is a tribute to nostalgia; It’s like when you look at a picture from the 1970s and everything is amber and fuzzy and glowing like a dream, and you sort of wonder if maybe that’s how people looked like and lived back then. It’s refreshing to hear a record that sounds really detached, not because of irony or self abasement, but because it sounds like it’s from a place that you’ve literally never been to before. Yet, out of this, it all feels so familiar -like stepping away from a photo album for many years and then coming back to bask in the warm, reverb washed glow of memories of things you swore you did at some point.
